The Sayler-Swartsel House

Sayler-Swartsel House

Welcome to the Sayler-Swartsel House located at the Preble County Historical Center in Eaton, Ohio!

Built circa 1860 by Sebastian Sayler and his wife, Catherine, this house and the 223 acres of land it sets on, was donated to the Historical Society in 1974 by its then owner, Sara Swartsel. An additional 20 acres was purchased by PCHS in 2004 to make this center even more enjoyable!

Today the house functions as office space with PCHS staff, exhibit areas for many of the societies artifacts, archival space, textile storage and collection processing rooms.

What's the best part about the PCHS center? Getting up close and personal with history! The following links will provide you with an introduction into some of the artifacts located within the Sayler-Swartsel house, but don't let that fool you! There is PLENTY more to see here at PCHS. In addition to the house itself, we also have an exhibit hall, a bank barn and a log cabin - all chock full of wonderful items to see!

Come experience Preble County history! Hike our trails and eat a picnic lunch at our picnic tables! But most of all - ENJOY!
